Eye Movement Desensitization (EMDR)

Developed by Francine Shapiro, Ph.D in 1987, EMDR is an innovative approach that uses eye movements or other forms of rhythmical stimulation to stimulate the brain’s information processing system and allows for the rapid desensitization and resolution of emotional distress, intrusive thoughts, flashbacks and nightmares arising from difficult childhood experiences, or recovery from the effects of critical incidents such as automobile accidents, assault, natural disasters or other traumatic memories.
